Cheney Hunting Accident Simulation

There has been a lot of speculation about whether the injuries reported agree with the type of weapon and the distance that has been reported. Caller-Times photographer and avid shooter simulates Sat's accident with a 0.28-gauge shotgun

Gainesville Sun: It is likely that Cheney was using No. 8 or 8o birdshot, which is designed for quail and dove hunting. Depending on the brand of shell used, a No. 8o birdshot load likely carries about 300 pellets made of lead (No. 8 is one of the smallest pellets available). Pellet size for birdshot ranges from 0.05 to 0.15 in. According to experts, No. 8o pellets fired by the lightweight shotgun would likely have a muzzle velocity of 1,200 to 1,300 feet per second...
